Status Material Work Packages

Tips:

If you are an administrative user, you can view the project's bills of material (BOMs) with WBS/control account assignments. Select Home > BOM in the Navigation Menu to display the BOM tab. Select your project from the Project dropdown in the Ribbon Menu to display the list of BOMs.

Only administrative users can make changes to the project's BOMs. This includes adding or deleting parts or assemblies as well as updating a manufacturer, quantity, or unit price in the BOMs.

Prerequisites

  • When you are sharing data with BOEMax, you have imported the BOEMax project to create your EVMax project. The import process includes the project's BOMs and WBS/control account assignments.
  • When you are not sharing data with BOEMax, you have created the project's BOMs, created the applicable Material assumption type work packages with the Quantities earned value technique, assigned a material resource, and selected the applicable BOM line items to determine the budget base value. Once a part or assembly is selected from a BOM for a material work package, the Assignment column in the BOM displays the applicable work breakdown structure (WBS)/control account so it is easy to identify the work packages with material resource assignments.

The following steps assume you are using the Standard View Ribbon Menu option to status the earned quantities in the Resource BOM window for a material work package. Entering the earned quantities calculates the earned value for the current reporting period.

  1. Select Home > Earned Value in the Navigation Menu. The main EVMax window displays.
  2. Select your project from the Project dropdown in the Ribbon Menu.
  3. Expand the WBS hierarchy as needed to view the work packages.
  4. Select the material work package row assigned the Quantities EV Technique in the top pane.
  5. If this is the first reporting period you are entering status for the work package, enter an actual start date for the work package. Entering an actual start date generates the earned value resource record in the database.
    1. Select the Work Package tab in the bottom pane.
    2. Select the Status EVT tab.
    3. Enter or select the Actual Start date from the dropdown.
    4. Click Save in the Ribbon Menu.

  6. Select the Resources tab in the bottom pane. This enables the BOM option in the Ribbon Menu. The left pane displays the Budget, Earned, Actuals, and Forecast tabs.

    Tip:

    If the BOM option in the Ribbon Menu isn't enabled for the work package row you selected, verify the work package assumption type is set to "Material" (Work Package tab, Add/Edit tab) and the earned value technique is set to "Quantities" (Work Package tab, Status EVT tab). If they are set to something else, the BOM option to enter earned quantities isn't available for that work package.

  7. Select the Earned tab. A list of the resources assigned to the work package displays in the left pane.
  8. Click BOM in the Ribbon Menu. The Resource BOM window displays a list of the project's BOMs parts and assemblies assigned to the work package that were used to determine the budget data.
  9. Optional. Click Expand in the Ribbon Menu to view any assembly details.
  10. Click in the Earned Qty cell for each row and enter the earned quantity value.
  11. Click Save to return to the EVMax window. The earned value results are calculated for you.

  12. Optional. To view the earned value data, select the Spreads tab in the right pane of the Earned tab.

    Tip:

    Should you identify an error in the earned value data, you can clear the current period earned value data (see Remove Current Earned Values), fix the errors, and then enter the earned quantity again.
